GRID is onze eerste one page comic expo. Hiermee bieden we een platform aan voor makers om hun beeldverhaal of comic te tonen aan het grote publiek. Deze expo zal doorgaan van 21 tot 30 juni 2024 in Edward in Gent.

De naam GRID refereert aan de ‘vakjes’ waarmee veel strips zijn opgebouwd. Wij moedigen spel en experiment aan, en willen kunstenaars aansporen het grid te doorbreken.

Het GRID heeft een lange geschiedenis binnen het narratieve beeld. Het insinueert het verstrijken van tijd en creëert een wereld waarbinnen scènes en personages kunnen ontplooien. Jaar en dag bood het grid een podium voor het stripverhaal. Maar voor sommigen bleek het grid te klein. Als ontdekkingsreizigers aan de voet van de Nieuwe Tijd begon men het kader te doorbreken. Artiesten reisden de weidse oceanen van de bladspiegel af en het beeldverhaal begon zich af te scheuren van de comic.

Met GRID biedt Pulp Deluxe startende beeldverhaal- en stripmakers de mogelijkheid om het blad te gebruiken als middel om hun verhaal mee te delen en dit verhaal te tonen aan het grote publiek. Breek je liever met traditie of gebruik je het grid als een speelveld om jouw verhaal op te bouwen? Het is aan jou om je witte blad in te delen en ons mee op schok te nemen.

GRID is een initiatief van Pulp deLuxe en wordt gesteund door Literatuur Vlaanderen, Stad Gent, Stripgids, Trefpunt en Zwartopwit.

Concreet aanbod

1. Mogelijke presentatieplek op GRID.
2. Bij selectie een vergoeding van 150 euro.
3. Bij selectie publicatie in boekje van de expo en Stripgids.
4. De druk en montagekosten zijn uiteraard voor Pulp deLuxe.
5. Uitwisseling met andere beeldenmakers over het medium.

Deelnamecriteria

1. Je beeld is een beeldverhaal of strip: je vertelt een verhaal. Dit kan poëtisch of een abstracte vertelling worden, maar er moet een duidelijk verloop zijn. Dat je een verhaal vertelt, blijkt uit de compositie en/of toevoeging van tekst. Zowel verhalen die traditioneel zijn opgebouwd met een grid als verhalen zonder grid zijn welkom.
2. Je verhaal bestaat uit één pagina. Het kan ook omschreven worden door de term “one pager”.
3. Je beeld kan op zich staan en heeft geen extra toelichting nodig.
4. Het ingezonden werk is tweedimensionaal en kan afgedrukt worden op papier.
5. Je beeld is 300 dpi en heeft de afmetingen van een A2. Je stuurt het drukklaar in, met een bleed van 3mm. De geselecteerde one-pagers zullen afgedrukt worden op A2 formaat. Dit betekent niet dat je tekening op A2 moet getekend zijn, maar zal wel opgeblazen worden tot dit formaat indien je deze kleiner hebt getekend. Zorg voor een goede resolutie.
6. Personen van alle leeftijden kunnen zich inschrijven.
7. Je bent woonachtig in België of Nederland.
8. Je werk is in het Nederlands of Engels, of er is geen talenkennis vereist om het verhaal te kunnen volgen.

GRID is our first one page comic expo. With this we offer a platform for creators to show off their graphic novel or comic to the general public. This expo will take place from June 21 to 30, 2024 at Edward in Ghent.

The name GRID refers to the “boxes” used to build many comics. We encourage play and experimentation, and want to encourage artists to break through the grid.

GRID has a long history within the narrative image. It insinuates the passage of time and creates a world within which scenes and characters can unfold. For years and years, the grid provided a stage for the comic strip. But for some, the grid proved too small. Like explorers at the foot of the New Age, people began to break out of the framework. Artists traveled the vast oceans of the page layout and the graphic novel began to tear itself away from the comic.

With GRID, Pulp Deluxe offers upstart cartoon and comic book creators the opportunity to use the magazine as a means of sharing their story and showcasing that story to the general public. Do you prefer to break with tradition or use the grid as a playing field to build your story? It’s up to you to categorize your white sheet and take us on a shock ride.

• Possible presentation spot at GRID.
• In case of selection a compensation of 150 euro.
• In case of selection publication in booklet of the expo and Stripgids.
• Printing and editing costs are of course for Pulp deLuxe.
• Exchange with other image makers on the medium.

Participation criteria

• Your image is a visual story or comic: you tell a story. This can be poetic or an abstract narrative, but there must be a clear progression. That you are telling a story is evidenced by the composition and/or addition of text. Both stories traditionally constructed with a grid and stories without a grid are welcome.
• Your story consists of one page. It can also be described by the term “one pager.”
• Your image can stand on its own and needs no additional explanation.
• The work submitted is two-dimensional and can be printed on paper.
• Your image is 300 dpi and the size of an A2. You submit it print-ready, with a bleed of 3mm. The selected one-pagers will be printed at A2 size. This does not mean that your drawing must be drawn at A2, but will be blown up to this size if you have drawn it smaller. Make sure you have a good resolution.
• Individuals of all ages may register.
• You live in Belgium or the Netherlands.
• Your work is in Dutch or English, or no language skills are required to follow the story.
